You know it’s going to be a bad day when you come to work and see this….

Just in case you haven’t heard, the combination of very low humidity, vicious Santa Ana winds, and very little moisture, have created the perfect stage for wildfires. I’ve heard that over 250,000 have been evacuated. Several wildfires are burning in San Diego County, a current map can be found here. The scope of the fire is staggering.

Resources can be found here, a list of what to take if evacuated here, updated news here, here, here, and on San Diego CityBeat’s Blog, among many others. Loss of property has been high, and though even a single life lost is too much, so far there has only been one fatality, those injured have a long haul ahead.

The Missus, Da Boyz, and I are fine(thanks for the emails). I’ve been in contact with Cathy, and last I heard She was okay as well. I hope all of you are staying safe.

It has not been a good day for San Diego…….

Yes, I’ve fallen behind on a few things at home, and we’re off on vacation in a few days as well. It’s during these times that I’m so grateful for Cathy, who will once again hold down the fort for a few weeks while we’re gone.

So where are we going? Here’s a really easy hint:

Yep, we’re almost packed. The Missus has been looking forward to this trip for a while. I’m hoping to get some good eats in as well.

And this gives it all away…..

Since this is a Food Blog….or at least is supposed to be one, I’ll throw in some food.

Here’s the fried Snapper I made for the Missus recently:

Dusted with flour, granulated garlic, fresh ground pepper, sea salt, cayenne, and some paprika. Fried in canola oil with some bacon grease (sssshhh, I didn’t tell the Missus about the secret flavoring ingredient). The Missus told me, "you may finally be learning how to fry…."

Thien Thanh Closes Down:

Thien Thanh, one of my favorite Vietnamese Restaurants has closed. Last week, I decided to check out Thien Thanh, when I drove into the parking lot, the restaurant was closed, and an "opening soon" banner was posted. I guess this was inevitable. We never saw more than one table occupied on any of our many visits.

The name of the new restaurant will obviously garner many laughs….and hey, maybe Pho-King needs to check out possible trademark infringement??????

RIP Thien Thanh, we’ll miss you….especially the Bun Cha Hanoi.

Some Housekeeping:

I recently received two emails asking if I would link to all of my recipes from the main page.  Apparently, scrolling through all of my recipes looking for the desired post was inefficient, and I’ve been told that the Google Search doesn’t always work right. So I’ve summarized my recipes on the bottom left hand sidebar. I hope it works okay….but who the heck want to copy what I cook?

Heck, so long that it makes you happy, I’ll do it…. we aim to please!

Not really about food, sort of….

Now for some mid week levity, it’s really not about food…..

A few years back, when we still lived in LA, we were attending a concert at a small club called The Hop in the City of Industry. The opening act was a Country Rock band playing a bunch of covers. During one of the songs, a cover of Can’t You See, by the Marshall Tucker Band, the Missus turns to me with a puzzled look on Her face and asks me,"What kind of music is this?"

"It’s Southern Rock." I answer….

A look of understanding comes across Her face, and she exclaims, "Okay, that makes sense now!"

Now I’m confused…"What do you mean?"

She responds with, "that’s why they’re singing about fried chicken!"

"Say What!!!"

It turns out that I’m hearing, "Can’t you see, can’t you see, what that woman lord done to me…."

She, on the other hand is hearing this(here’s a hint):

Yes, She’s hearing…."K-F-Ceeeee, K-F-Ceeee"

Shades of "Sam Woo the Killer Whale"……funny, I can’t help but crack up anytime I hear that darn song!

Just a quick post to wish everyone a wonderful Year of the Pig. Even more important, this is the Year of the Golden Pig, something that happens every 60 years. According to what I understand, children born this year will be prosperous and wealthy.

The Monterey Park Floral Street Fair, which run through tomorrow. It was packed and we didn’t spend much time there. But in case you’re interested, click on the link above, starts at the busy corner of Garfield and Garvey in Monterey Park. Not much food on display, but lot’s of other stuff.

Let Me Introduce to You……..

MMM-YOSO is a true labor of love for me. I’m always so amazed and so very appreciative of most of the individuals who actually take time out of their day to visit mmm-yoso.

So when the Missus and I arranged a vacation, not a short trip, but a real vacation, I was torn. The first thing I thought was "what about my blog???" Sounds strange I know, but when I started this little ol’ blog, I made a commitment to attempt to do it to the best of my abilities.

As fate would have it, a friend of mmm-yoso stepped up to the plate, and has agreed to provide mmm-yoso with Her own brand of humor, insight, and most importantly her opinions.

So let me turn over mmm-yoso to Cathy, a frequent commenter, the same Cathy who often accuses me of being a restaurant stalker, since we have often eaten at the same restaurants during the same period of time. Cathy is a longtime San Diego resident, one thing I’m not, and can provide much background on various topics. Cathy is also well traveled(hint: don’t replace her chopsticks with a fork and spoon….), and has great taste…since we often have the same opinion and observations on various restaurants. LOL!

Thanks so much for graciously taking the wheel Cathy! I’m forever indebted to you!
