Giant New York Pizza- You can get other food here too!

mmm-yoso!!! is our blog.  Kirk is away and the rest of us are playing.  Right now, Cathy is writing about a quick meal.

Hello again. I was going to get creative for this start of April post, but am overwhelmingly busy and so am just going to show you last night’s dinner.

Giant New York Pizza.  You’ve seen them around town.

You can get a 48 inch diameter  pie with three items for about $28.  You need a pick up truck with a gate to  bring it home because the box won’t fit in the passenger door.  Or you can just get a couple of  giant slices.  $2.25 each. This photo is in a large pizza box.

Then there is the gyros.   Kind of looks small in the photo, but it is overfilled with meat and sauce, onions and tomatoes. For some reason, there was lettuce yesterday.  It tasted very good, moist meat, cut fresh from the spit. The tzatziki is good and fresh.

(Remember my "there are no rules" when it comes to food mantra?  There is no reason you can’t ask for your pizza to have gyros meat on it you know…I mean the meat is right there next to the pizza oven.  Try it.)

This was a $5 sandwich, big enough to share.  Too much food with a pizza slice. Dsc01616_2

Yep, that was our meal- hot, fresh, good.  Less than $10.

I love the Greek salad here also, you know,  when I want greens.  Yesterday, I wanted food.

Sorry so short, more tomorrow.

  1. Ah man, I love their pizza. Nice thin crispy crust. The last one we had delivered still had a crispy crust even though it was delivered. And here in Mira Mesa, you gotta love having your pizza delivered in a modified Honda with tuned exhaust! πŸ˜‰
I’m trying the gyros pizza next time.

  2. I ordered their uber large one time unawares of it’s ridiculousness..30 minutes later this dude pulls up with this…box the size of a dumpster…I was worried that we’d need to take the doors off the hinges to get it in…It was huge…easily the biggest pizza I’ve ever seen..The pizza was fine…just a typical delivery pizza…

  3. Happy to acomodate you, Alexander.
Hey, Janfrederick- it is great pizza- thin crust and just perfect as well as huge. I get gyros, mushroom, sausage and canadian bacon…
Great story TLB! It is the most fun pizza I have had. I prefer thin crust if I have to choose. Mike’s Giant is different, but good. Sometimes I will ask them to make it “well done” so the cheese is melty-burned.

  4. Well then to be fair i think it was Mikes over on Reo in N.C. I think…I am easily confused..There is one right around the corner from me on El Cajon…I’ll give it a try and report back..although I live in a Casita so…either I’ll need to eat at least 1/2 or I’ll be sleeping outside until it’s all gone.

  5. I’ve been to the one in National City, TLB- but it was last year. Only been to the one in El Cajon once and the pizza was not cooked.

  6. Yes, Vicki- They use the whole oven level for one pizza. I think normally 6 larges fit on it.
-We only had one slice each, Ron…and the sandwich…and it was still too much food.
-Right, Bill…I am still busy with work. Tomorrow is another day.
You do have access to blogging, Omar. I have gone to the Giant NY Pizza in Santee regularly for more than 20 years now. At one point, probably one pizza a week. It’s always good. I usually get a “small” (16 inch) though, or just slices.

  7. I think if what I’ve had was anything like Omar’s description, I would definitely not have gone back. His description sounds just like a place called the Pizza Box we had in Milpitas that offered “New York” pizza. Yuck! I liked our elementary school pizza better.

  8. OK, Omar. My definition of “bad” pizza: A) Does have to do with the crust. Specifically the pre-manufactured, with holes punched in the bottom crust. 2. The sauce being overspiced and anything more than tomato and olive oil flavored is also wrong. III. The cheese needs to be real. I have had pizzas made of all three of the above. THOSE are bad pizza.
If I can taste yeasty crispy dough, pure tomato flavor and a nice gooey cheese, slightly burnt, I am happy.
    It’s a blog. We aren’t controversial.

  9. Yes. The Giant NY in Santee is on Carlton Hills, next to GTM. I have sent two to the email address you filled in when you comment. Also when I commented to you on the blog you got mine. My whole point was there are *far* worse things that are called “pizza” that are not even fresh baked.

  10. Keep in mind that some of us (me) haven’t been to New York. So our (my) frame of reference could have a lot to do with it.
For me, I don’t like pizza that has too much dough. I actually prefer less sauce, but my wife prefers more. I like boatloads of garlic and sky’s the limit for toppings.
In any case, regarding frame of reference, I used to *love* rubios when I first moved to San Diego. Now it’s like an ex girlfriend. πŸ˜‰
