Has it been four years already?

For some reason, I always think that May 27th is our Blogga-versary…….and luckily, every year I check, to find that "gasp!!!" it's actually May 26th. So yes, it's Spam Musubi time again:

D6005252009 004

D6005252009 001 Yes, another year, with great food, great fun, and wonderful FOYs (friends of yoso)! Hard to believe. In a world where things change so quickly, I think that for better or worse, we've kinda stayed the same. What started as a way for the Missus and I to keep track of, and share what we ate, our little food-diary of sorts has grown a bit, with FOYs like Cathy and Ed from Yuma providing much more food and color. And posts listing places ranging far and wide, not only San Diego, Yuma, and SoCal…but from Detroit and Madison, to Seattle and Portland, to Peru and Laos. But it's still a bunch of folks just eating and writing about it. It has been a great four years. I'm hoping that the next year will be a great one as well. I'd like to keep going until I run out of candle space on the musubi!!!

I'm a bit curious…… if you've been reading regularly; I'm wondering how long have you been an FOY?

A most humble thank you for reading, commenting…. and especially for taking the time out to check us out!

  1. Wow 4 Years. I remember the first posts. Amazing. Thanks for all the work you do making this thing happen. And thanks for letting me post every once in a while.

  2. Happy Birthday to mmm-yoso! Thanks to you, Ed and Cathy for making this site so wonderful. And for the Missus’ support!
I think I started visiting here since early 2007. Took me a while to read all the posts from the first day.

  3. Happy blog-iversary to the mmm-yoso gang! Like Carol, I found this site about two years ago, and gradually went back to read all the posts.
Not long after finding mmm-yoso, I remember taking a visiting friend to Crab Hut soon after reading your first post on the place.

  4. Happy Anniversary! I’ve been a reader/lurker for a little over two years now. I found your blog through a google search on Country’s BBQ in Columbus, GA. I have since moved back to SoCal and have eaten at a few of your suggested places!

  5. Congrats! This is the only subscription in my Google Reader where I’ve read every single entry. (I found your blog about 3.5 years ago when Jamillah Garden showed up on my google search for knife-cut noodles).

  6. Happy anniversary and thanks for making this such a fun blog to visit! Been reading since summer of 2006 but stopped lurking in 2007 to make my first comment on Mo’s…found mmm-yoso through a google search for plate lunch places in San Diego. πŸ™‚

  7. Hi Kirk!
I don’t remember when exactly I started reading mmm-yoso, but it might have been sometime in 2006. I found the site when doing a google search of Rickshaw corner, because I was trying to find their phone number.

  8. Four years and your posts just keep getting better and better! must have been January of 2006 that I started reading your blog. Thank you!

  9. Happy blogiversary! I really love reading about your adventures, and I always come here to look for interesting restaurants to visit. I’m not really sure how long I’ve been visiting, maybe 2 1/2 years?

  10. Found late in 2006 after a search for Sushi Komasa in LA. I find the in-depth reviews to be far more useful and enjoyable compared to the star ratings of certain “other” sites.
I just have one issue. Went to lucky pho once, and the broth was bland except for an extra large heaping of black pepper. What’s up with that? πŸ™‚

  11. Wow, four years? I think I started reading about 3 years ago. I remember reading your entire first year when I started. Kinda creepy huh?
To be honest though, I think I became hooked when you described a ramen broth as “porky” and that a different version didn’t quite have the same level of “porkiness”. My hat goes off to anyone who uses language like that (that and palate for detail more commonly applied exclusively to super expensive fine-dining establishments–not that we aren’t treated to such on occassion here). πŸ˜‰

  12. I’ve been reading since I discovered you on June 3, 2005. That’s also when you wrote your first comment on my blog! Thanks for 4 wonderful years!

  13. Omedeto! And we all think it has been time well spent for us all! I don’t know exactly when I stumbled upon your site, but I’m glad I did.

  14. hi kirk! happy bloggaversary! and yeah, that spam musubi looks pretty good! i could eat several of those!
i was a lurker and turned into a FOY since early 2006 – i was looking up reviews on Ben’s in National City and came upon your post. After that, I was hooked. you are one of my food blogs to visit.

Hi Mike – We’ll try our best.
Hi Jen – Must’ve been the Lightning Jack post, huh? Would be good to have a place like Country’s here.

Hi Jan – LOL! Not creepy at all….. Tonkotsu Ramen has to have that “porcina-ness”…..

    Hi Su-Lin – A few more grey hairs…but we’re still going strong.

  17. Hi Kirk! I can’t quite figure out how long I’ve been reading, but as near as I can tell, I found you sometime in late 2005.
Thanks for all the great meals!

  22. Happy blog-o-versary Kirk.
I discovered you in September 2005 (through Chowhound) as I made plans for a move from Eastern Canada to SD.
I have passed mmm-yoso to many people in 4 years, from my high school buddy who now lives in Laos to my Japanese colleague who I was able to show Okan (and a slice of home). You have never steered me wrong and always seem to uncover the best places with the best food.
    Cheers!

  23. Kirk, Cathy and Ed–Happy B Day. I found you about two years ago and spent tons of time back-reading. You all are great.

  24. Kirk, Ed, Kath, the gang, hey a year goes by so quickly. Its goes without saying that the posts have been great and your travelogues great also. Its been 3 years I think since Ive been reading your wonderful blog. It was great meeting you the first year of reading your blog.

  25. Wowzers! Congrats!! Guess I’ve been around since near the beginning? You came to visit and bring Pepper to us in August of ’05. At the same time we realized that Mike was going to have to retire on disability. Right after your visit I went into full time mode gearing up for our cross country move.
Coincidentally, we are going to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary July 10th. If any of you FOYS want to suggest a camping place in Coastal North Carolina, I’d love to hear from you.
Kirk, you remember the bottles of wine dedicated to this celebration? You guys are invited, all 4 of you!

  26. Hi kirk happy Blogga-versary!!! As you know your blog is an inspiration to many and is actually the reason I started blogging. Heres to many years to come.

  27. Hi Cathy – Thanks for always being so dependable, and giving us time to take those trips, and have a life in general.
Hi CC – I know what you meant! Thanks! ;o)
Hi Jenne – 2005! Well you’re one of the original FOYs then!

Hi Sawyer – 2006, huh? Back in those starving student days, right?
Hi Pam – Man, so much has happened in those four years…..I do miss those days sometimes though.
Hi Campy – Thanks so much! It’s comments like yours that keep us going.
Hi Wendy – Thanks so much for reading.
Hi Jeffrey – I really can’t wait for you both to roll back into town again!
Hi Jo – Yep, four years….seems so long, yet so short! And of course I remember the Pepper excursion…I’ve still got that mead in a nice dark and cool place, until next year!
Hi MA – Actually, it’s all of you who keep us inspired. It’s been great to see all the San Diego food blogs that have appeared over the last few years.

  28. Hi. Wow 4 years. Congrats to you all!
I’ve been reading, and commenting for about 2 years now. I’ve learned so much about all different kinds of food, and have eaten in several of the places you’ve mentioned.
I think I stumbled across your blog when I was doing a google search for Chinese food.
I look forward to more posts.

  29. Congratulations! I just found out about your blog this year and I’ve been enjoying reading it ever since! I have alot of catching up to do, 4 years worth. Thanks for all the entertaining and very informative articles that you, Cathy and Ed have written! By the way, I’m lucky enough to work with your in-laws, they are really nice people!

  30. Hi Kirk, Happy Blogga-versary! I think I started reading regularly two years ago but while researching time to time I would find your older posts and still find them very useful not to mention fun reading.
I’d say at least another 12 candles can fit that spam easily!

  31. Happy bloggaversary to you, and may you have many more! We’ve found some great places here based on your recommendations and really appreciate the work you put into this.

  32. Hi Stephen – Thanks for all the visits and comments, I appreciate them?

Here’s to another 4!!! How many meals would that be?

  34. Hi BBQ Dude – Thanks!
Hey Scott – It’s really nice to “hear” from you. I hope all is well. As for how many….we’re up around 1,150 posts, or so.
Hi LMCC – Thanks so much!

  35. Kirk and the Missus,
Happy Anniversary! I’ve been reading for less than a year, though I wish I’d been reading longer. Thanks for all the yummy posts (drool). =)

  36. Congrats! My wife and I have been reading your blog since we moved here from DC in November 2006. It all started when we were trying to find a place to get dim sum and we’ve been hooked ever since. I’m from Kaneohe, by the way, and am STILL looking for malasadas somewhere in San Diego!

  37. Hey, Happy Anniversary. It’s been great having your blog as a guide to good eats in SD and especially on Convoy. Thanks!

  38. Hi mnchemie – Thank you for reading!
Hi James – There’s only one place in San Diego County that makes (or used to make) malasadas, that is Ono’s Cafe in Bonita. I haven’t been there in a few years, and I know they’ve revamped the menu. The malasadas weren’t very good, though. I’m always on the look-out for stuffs like that….so let me know if you find anything!
Hi ScottyB – Thanks so much!

  39. So I’m more than a little late on the draw, but congratulations to you, Kirk, as well as Cathy and Ed!! Four years is a lifetime in the blogosphere. I, for one, consider my life a bit more enriched (and my stomach much happier) for having found you guys. Thanks for all your hard work and great posts!
