It’s that time again……

The Missus and I are headed out…….and mmm-yoso!!! is once again in the most capable hands of Cathy! I need to thank Cathy, for taking the time out, and taking care of our little blog….she’s quite busy, and is still finding time for us.

So, where are we headed?

Well, Miss Oishii Eats has been there. Wandering Chopsticks as well. So has the Gastronomer. And of course, there are those bloggers who live and blog from there as well.

I’ll be checking in when I’m able to!

See you all in a few weeks…we’ll miss ya’!

  1. OH! my homeland! well, my parents’, anyway (I’m first generation American, so I guess it’s not really mine).
have LOTS of fun and eat lots of yummy food and be sure to write all about it when you get back, Kirk!

  2. Hi Anna – Thanks…we made it to Hanoi in one piece!
Hi Mscinda – I hope to have a few posts at least.
Hi Alex – Thanks…Cha Ca is high on the list. And you can’t avoid running into Banh Mi….you just can’t, it’s everywhere.
Hi WC – We’re still having a bit of sensory overload….
Hi Clayfu – Sorry, but this time we’re only in the North, so we’ll most like;y be grabbing some Bun Rieu, but no Bun Bo Hue!
Hi Kat and Billy – Thanks…..
Hi Joseph – Happy Easter to you as well.
Hi Taka – Wow, sounds like fun!

  3. Hi G – I was thinking of contacting you; but we’re only in Hanoi – Sapa – Halong Bay this time around.
    Hi RONW – No, it’s ‘friend’… ;o)
    Hi Omar – Thanks……
    Hi Howie – OK, it’s 4 in the morning here….and I’m checking my blog…..
Hi CC – I hope to get at least a few blog-worthy posts.

  4. I have two requests (in case u haven’t left):
Plz get pics of Brown paddy crabs (Bun Rieu) and Hue city (esp. Bo Bun Hue)!!

  5. Kirk,
You probably bookmarked the com lam on my Sa Pa post. For Hanoi, of course you can’t miss out on Cha Ca La Vong at #14 Cha Ca. Nearby at #17 has the ca cuong beetle pheromones in the dipping sauce (haven’t eaten it myself but I hear the pheromones give a perfume-like fragrance).
#1 Pho Manh, best bun cha in town. Ask for a side of nem ran cua be (egg rolls with cracked crab). Go for lunch, they often close for dinner.
Around Truc Bach lake are some pho cuon (rice noodle rolls) places, but I can’t remember the address. The corner place that’s two stories has sauteed pigeon inside the rolls.
Around the Catholic church in the old quarter, there’s a lady frying banh goi on the street.
OK, that’s all I can think of for now. Have fun!

  6. Hi Penny – LOL!
    Hi Carol – Thanks!
Hi Mr S – Not sure about the BBH, we’re only in Northern VN. Took some photos of the “Very fresh” crabs at Hang Be Market.
Hi Reid – Only 1 week in VN, and 1 week in Cambodia.
Hi WC – Third recommendation for Bun Cha on #24 Hang Manh….so we’ll have to make sure to get there.
Hi Liz – Thanks so much!

  7. just wanted to comment on Wandering Chopsticks comment on the Ca Cuong (beetle pheromones) :o) – it’s really good in Bun Thang too. A little goes a long way and it adds this sharp perfumey kind of taste but in a good way. You’re not missing anything without it but it adds the extra little bit when you have it. It’s also good to have with Banh Cuon Cha Lua(the wide rice noodles, served with the pork “bologna”).

  8. Hi Elmo – Right you are…..
    Hi Anna – Thanks….
Hi Reid – Thanks, we’re having a great time….and some “interesting” food.

  9. Be sure to take advantage of the Bun Rieu over there. I can’t say the same thing for Pho or even Bun Bo Hue, but Bun Rieu is THE BEST in Vietnam. They have those live little sweet water crab to make the broth. Have fun and be safe!!!!
