Genoa – Antica Friggitoria Carega and Eataly

We were sad to leave the Cinque Terre. We had really enjoyed our stay. My first instinct when planning our trip was to head back to Milan. But while planning things out, I watched Stanley Tucci's Searching for Italy and in the episode on Liguria he visited Genoa and basically indicated that it was the "home of pesto". The episode featured a restaurant, Il Genovese, yes I made sure to call Genoa, "Genova" during my time in Italy. Anyway, the owner of the restaurant established the Pesto World Championship. And heck, we'd had pesto almost everyday during our stay in Liguria, so it made sense to stay in the city, right?

It was a mere hour-and-a-half train ride from Monterosso to the main train station in Genoa. We were staying in near the Old Port, Porto Antico. It was an interesting half hour walk from the train station as we got an introduction to the Caruggi di Genova, the narrow alleyways of the city. Our hotel, the Best Western Hotel Porto Antico Genoa was right down one of these side streets. We had arrived too early to check in, so we stored our luggage and went for a walk.

There are quite a few things to see in the area. It seemed quite touristy during the days, but quiet during the evenings. We quickly figured out things when we saw two cruise ships in port. Still, in spite of having a population of over a half-million, things seemed so relaxed.
It was interesting to watch folks line up for the Bigo a lift on cranes which give you views of the city.

IMG_3078
We decided to just relax, especially after all the walking and hiking we did in the Cinque Terre. Just take our two nights and enjoy things.
While walking down the lovely porticos of the waterfront we noticed this little shop. The smell of frying seafood wafting in the air.
IMG_3061
Looking things over, we got a "Misto a Piacere" (mixed seafood), "medio" (medium) for a mere 9,5€!
IMG_3058
The Missus didn't want the calamari, so we got just the Gamberi Fritti (Shrimp) and Fritto di Pesce (Anchovy). Man the shrimp was fried nicely, still crisp, and quite briny-sweet.
IMG_3059
I loved the crisp-savory anchovy. Like I said before, the seafood in Liguria!
Nothing like some good fry-o-lated seafood to get started in Genoa!

We decided do a bit more exploring before heading back to the hotel. There's quite a bit to do. The Genoa Aquarium is right across…well, across and under highway SS1 which hugs the shoreline, there's Vascello Neptune, a replica of a Spanish Galleon. It was market day at the port.
IMG_3063
Part of which ran right under the highway.
We took our time checking things out.
IMG_3062
And though we didn't find anything we were interested in; this little one seemed to be happy with its purchase!
IMG_3068
We passed this historic building. It's the Palazzo San Giorgio, which is currently the HQ of the Port Authority. This lovely building was built in the 13th Century and the palace was once a prison.
IMG_3065
Which housed the one and only Marco Polo. It is said that during his time in the prison, Marco Polo dictated his travels to a fellow prisoner; the writer Rustichello da Pisa. The manuscript which eventually became The Travels of Marco Polo!
A bit further down the port we noticed a location of Eataly.
IMG_3067
Well, we'd been to Eataly locations in Copenhagen, Florence, and Bologna, so we thought why not check it out?
IMG_3070
IMG_3071
IMG_3073
As always, there's much to tempt you if you have the $$$$ or in this case the €€€€.
The cheese looked quite enticing, but we were only spending two nights in the city.
IMG_3072
And we'd find better ways to spend our Euros.
Still, it was a fun exploring…..

As we left the shop, we figured it was time to check in and take a break before heading out to dinner.

Thanks for stopping by!

Diamond Palace (Rolando)

In those days when; other than fine dining and out of town places, I did my best to do multiple visits before doing a post, I had tons of "one-and-done" photos that ended up in the recycle folder. But since around 2022, I've been doing some single visits. As to how many visits; well, it depends on price, and possibly if I'm on the fence about a place. Also, with JJ around, many of those meals will be single visit based as well. And in some cases; like Diamond Palace (and a few more), so much time elapsed between visits, that I decided to start "the clock over again".

I first noticed Diamond Palace was taking the place of Lucky Star back in May of 2022. Back at the beginning of 2023, the Missus and I paid a visit….and then just kinda forgot about things. Here are some photos from that visit.

Diamond P Old 01

Diamond P Old 02

Diamond P Old 03

Diamond P Old 04

While it was nice seeing Michael, the former manager of Golden Island, we really weren't impressed. Though I did tell myself to revisit in the couple of months; which became two years! So, those photos were headed for the junk pile…..but…..the Missus was asking about some dim sum. So, we went and (re)visited Diamond Palace and while I did delete most of the photos from that first visit, I had kept a few…which you see above.

And so, it was on a recent weekend morning that we headed to Diamond Palace arriving at around 1030. The place was pretty busy!

Diamond Palace 01

The dining room space is large, but only takes up a part of the huge building. DP serves Dim Sum all day, but we quickly noticed that there was only two carts hovering around and the offerings were limited.

We got some of the Tripe, which was undercooked, super hard, and had not absorbed any flavor.

Diamond Palace 02

Our favorite item by far were the Shrimp Siu Mai; while the wrapper was quite typical; the shrimp filling was tender, sweet, nicely flavored.

Diamond Palace 03b Diamond Palace 04   These seemed a bit over-stuffed, but heck, that shrimp was so good, I ain't complaining about proportion this time around.

The Bean Curd Roll with Abalone Sauce was a disappointment. Mushy and other than being super salty, lacking in flavor.

Diamond Palace 06

As was the Chicken Feet, which the Missus said was too hard and lacking in flavor as well.

Diamond Palace 05

The Roast Duck was pretty good.

Diamond Palace 07

The skin was on the rubbery side; but the fat had been nicely rendered. The flavor on the milder side, the flesh nice and tender. This did well as leftovers, brushed with the duck fat-sauce and put into the air fryer.

We saw Salted Fish and Chicken with Eggplant under the "Chef's Signature" portion of the menu so we ordered it.

Diamond Palace 09

We took a taste and the first thing both the Missus and I said was "where's the salted fish?" The dish lacked the umami-savoriness and the eggplant was undercooked; as we enjoy versions where the eggplant holds it's shape, but then melts as it hits your tongue. This was one of the blandest versions we've had.

So, a mixed bag, but the siu mai was quite good. We returned with a slight "strategy" in mind. This time the place was empty when we arrived. And based on how things were; there was only one cart at a time patrolling the dining room.

Diamond Palace 10

What was our strategy? Well, we'd try to stick with mostly shrimp-seafood dim sum items.

And while it was rather lean pickins' at least the basics were available.

The Shrimp Siu Mai was just as good this time around.

Diamond Palace 11

We also got the Har Gow.

Diamond Palace 13 (2)

While the wrapper was on the thicker and rubbery side of the scale; the shrimp in this was also plump and tasty.

With seafood in mind, we decided to get the Seafood Pan Fried Noodle. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, sweet, and tender. The fish had been nicely velveted and almost melted in one's mount.

Diamond Palace 14

The sauce as quite mild, with just a touch of white pepper and savoriness, but that really helped to make seafood the headliner. Unfortunately, the noodles were undercooked, almost plastic like. Too bad, because this dish was "so close".

What wasn't even "close" was the House Special Roast Chicken. Looking at the photo on the menu, I got serious "Fat Fat Chicken vibes".

Diamond Palace 15

Sadly, the skin was on the rubbery side, the seasoning very mild, not much going on, and worst of all, the flesh was dry and stringy.

Not a great way to end the meal.

I do think we'll return to Diamond Palace for the Siu Mai, Har Gow, and related dishes. Maybe they'll have a better variety of items available. And perhaps some duck. But as a whole, stick with seafood items.

Happy Hour With JJ – The High Dive

So, we're finding the JJ enjoys his walks….and I mean "walks". He's quite the trooper. We just got back from Santa Barbara and he did the 5 mile round trip walk with no problem!

So, the Missus was trying to figure out where to take the "J-mon" and thought of High Dive. It had been a while since we visited and I noticed hat there are Wednesday specials as well. It was a nice mile walk; downhill one way, uphill on the return, and JJ did well.

High Dive JJ HH 01b

We sat in the patio; it was such a nice day for February. And yes, there are Wednesday specials.

High Dive JJ HH 01

We were tempted by all the birria options; but in the end, that just seemed like a bit much. Instead, we went with a favorite of ours; the Chicken Chicharron ($12) and some Elote Asado ($8). All to be washed down with a Buenaveza Mexican Lager ($8) for me and the Missus had a Steigl Grapefruit Radler ($8).

High Dive JJ HH 02

The Missus had always enjoyed the Steigl Grapefruit Radler… so much that we visited the Stiegl-Keller Gastgarten in Salzburg, where their Headquarters and Brewery is located. She loves the refreshing flavor and the low (2%) ABV.

Soon enough the Chicken Chicharron arrived.

High Dive JJ HH 03

The salty-mildy spicy-tangy-sour Tajin does this dish well. The thinner slices are really crisp…like explodes when you take a bite crisp. Mildly "fowl-ly", this is by far our favorite item at High Dive. It goes so well with a nice Cerveza.

The Elote was warm, crunchy, but had a bit too much butter for our taste.

High Dive JJ HH 04

We used up all the lime to balance out the flavors. Not bad, but not sure we'll have this again.

Our Server was wonderful; the vibe is quite laid back, JJ got some water to relax and then barked at dogs walking by! I'm sure we'll be back…right JJ?

Tasty Noodle House (Convoy) Revisited

I've been craving some interesting things lately……for some reason, I've been wanting some baozi or Sheng Jian Bao. Man could I go for some Guo Bu Li Baozi ("stuffed buns that even dogs would not eat" – a specialty of Tianjin).

It had been a while since I'd been to Tasty Noodle House on Convoy and I thought some Zui Ji – Drunken Chicken would be good as well, especially since this would be a solo lunch. The Missus is not fond of Kwai Fei Ji, Zui Ji, and similar type dishes, so this would a chance to have some. JJ was bushed after having two morning walks and it was nap time; so I thought I'd head out to see how things were at Tasty Noodle House.

Tasty Noodle House Rev 01

I haven't been to this strip mall in ages, since the bike lanes went in. There's a somewhat confusing parking situation. The signs say two hours free when at businesses in the mall, then parking will be charged, all other need to pay. But there was nothing to indicate you were at one of the businesses, no attendant, how the heck would they know? Surveillance cameras???

Anyway, walking into the restaurant I asked, and the woman said "no worry" and walked away……ohhh-kay…..

I had arrived right at 11 and the place was empty. In fact, there were no other customers during my entire meal.

Tasty Noodle House Rev 02

I placed my order for the House Rice Wine Chicken (Zui Ji – $10.99) and the Shanghai Grilled Pork Buns (Sheng Jian Bao – $14.50), both of which seemed decently priced for these days. I was told the sheng jian bao would take 20-25 minutes, which was fine, so long they didn't tow my car!

The chicken arrived in the blink of an eye.

Tasty Noodle House Rev 03  Tasty Noodle House Rev 04  Well, this was decent sized portion. The chicken was haphazardly chopped with pieces not completely sliced thru. Unlike the rather decent rendition I'd had in the past; this was pretty bad. The chicken was very bland, the liquid (I really can't call it sauce) had barely a hint of the "pungent-bracing-slightly astringent" flavor I enjoy with this dish. Heck, I'd even take the super salty version I'd had here on a previous visit over this.

Rather than the 20-25 minutes I was told my baozi would take, it was out in less than 10 minutes! Hmmmm…..

Tasty Noodle House Rev 05  Tasty Noodle House Rev 06  Sadly, this was just as bad as the version I'd had here almost a decade ago. The dough was very soggy and rubbery; I like the tops of the baozi to be slightly fluffy. The bottoms were somewhat burnt and on the bitter side, hard instead of crisp. Look, I'm not expecting what we had in Suzhou or what my MIL makes. Heck, if it could be even close to the version at the Hacienda Heights location I'd be happy.

The filling was mushy and overly salty for my taste as well. It lacked a nice porky flavor….or perhaps, all that sodium just messed everything up?

Tasty Noodle House Rev 07

Well, this was a bummer of a meal……

Kinda sad actually.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

JJ would like to wish everyone the most lovely Valentine's Day! Of course, I was wishing to get a decent photo of JJ with the cute shirt his Auntie "Alle" got him, but sometimes….well, that's not going to happen.

IMG_5859

So, I'll just have to take what I can get!

IMG_5873

We just got back from Santa Barbara…yep, JJ has already done two road trips…. and saw this cute "VD" display.

Though JJ was more interested in getting some royalties for use of his name!

Anyway, we'd like to wish everyone a most "delici-yoso" Valentine's Day!

Turo Turo Thursday – Fiesta Pinoy

Recently, I had pick up some of those "crack wings" for a potluck the Missus was attending at work. On the way back to the freeway, I decided to grab an early lunch and not having visited Fiesta Pinoy since back in 2019, I thought I'd drop by and get my turo-turo fix.

Fiesta Pinoy 01

Looking at the sign had me wondering. Anyone know why they switched around their name from Pinoy Fiesta? Anyway, the place was totally empty during my visit.

Fiesta Pinoy 02

I was totally in a Sisig kind of mood so I walked on over to that area, where there were two strangely similar looking items. I could identify the sisig, but I asked what the other dish was and the woman told me it was Dinakdakan. Oh my! I don't think I've had Dinakdakan since I lived in HNL! In fact, the first time I had sisig on the mainland, I thought it was Dinakdakan. Of course, my friends were Ilocanos, so that kinda made sense.

I thought this would be an interesting comparison so I got both "hybrids" since Dinakdakan, like Sisig was traditionally made with pig head, but had more creaminess from mayo, which my friends family used instead of mashed pig brain, and also a ton of ginger. But the versions at all these turo-turo shops uses lechon kawale.

Fiesta Pinoy 03 Fiesta Pinoy 04   If you're keeping score, that's the sisig with the rice and the dinakdakan in the container. Both were somewhat similar. The dinakdakan was mushier, lacking in sour tones, with quite a bit of liquid on the bottom of the container. It didn't have the creaminess I enjoy and the lechon had become rubbery. It seemed to be on the blander side of the scale.

The rice was on the drier side, but ok.

I have noted before that I should just give up on the sisig here, but this was better than what I'd had on previous visits. The lechon was on the waxy side, but the skin pieces were fairly crisp. It was quite sour, but after tasting the dinakdakan, I rather enjoyed it. They go a bit too easy on the chilies here, I could use a bit more heat. And it wasn't ice cold like I've had it several times before. I guess the bar was set pretty low, huh?

Fiesta Pinoy 05

Still, it was good trying out a dish I hadn't even heard mentioned for decades and hadn't seen at turo-turo places. Though I just may not have been paying enough attention. Of course my "FOYs" will let me know if that's the case.

Mom Kitchen (Mira Mesa)

Back in September, I got word that a new Cantonese Restaurant opened in the spot that formerly housed Mama Cinia Rice & Noodles. Some quick checks noted that the placed supposedly served Cha chaan teng, classic Hong Kong style Cafe Cuisine. Which includes touches of various Western and other regional style cuisines, along with (usually) serving inexpensive food. Some of the classics we've had when we lived in the SGV include variations on pork chops, off course egg tarts, lots of won ton, and even macaroni soup, jook, pineapple buns, and of course milk tea.

My friends warned me about the lines when the placed initially opened and FOY "CY" also mentioned that he and "T" were not impressed and also, believing this was a classic HK Cafe, were shocked at the prices. Though it seemed like Soo enjoyed his visits there.

Recently, the Missus and I decided to head on over for lunch arriving right when the place opened at 11am.

Mom Kitchen 01a

There were three groups ahead of us when we arrived, but things didn't get too busy other than a steady flow of food delivery folks picking stuff up.

Mom Kitchen 02

The menu was an interesting mix of Cantonese specialties….no jook or Spam items though and the prices were not cheap. I know CY complained about spending $25 for half a duck. We looked over the menu and settled on three dishes.

Also, unlike a typical Hong Kong Cafe, it took a while for food to arrive. The three older women next to us, ordered before us, but their dishes didn't start arriving until after we got our three dishes.

We started with the Geely Fried Pork Chop ($14). ?We had always enjoyed Hong Kong style pork chops, whether they be marinated and fried or served with spicy salt, but this was different.

Mom Kitchen 03

Take a look; with the shredded cabbage and breading; doesn't this almost look like tonkatsu? The pork had been pounded quite thin and was chewy, the breading separating from the meat. This was on the bland side and very dry.

We also ordered the Shrimp in XO Sauce Noodle ($17), which was served with Silver Needle (aka "Mouse Tail") Noodles, something you don't commonly see in San Diego.

Mom Kitchen 04

There were quite a few shrimp in this; which were nice and tender. The noodles; if you've never had silver needle noodles, it's sort of like noodles made with wheat and tapioca starch, much like har gow skin. This was on the mushy side, lacking in the nice, slight, "stretch" that we enjoy with this type of noodle. The XO sauce was lacking and this was rather bland overall.

And of course, we needed to try the Roast Duck (half – $25).

Mom Kitchen 05

I'd seen several photos of the roast duck from Mom Kitchen and this looked a bit different. Especially from the version that Soo had. The fat had not been rendered enough, thus leaving a rubbery sub-layer, the skin was on the rubbery side. The meat of the duck was moist and had a pleasant "fowlness" to it. It was sorely lacking in anise based flavors and the sauce was on the sweet side instead of being the duck fat based wonderfulness we enjoy.

Well, as you can guess, the Missus was not very happy with this meal. I did want to return to try something else on the menu, but knew it would be a solo trip.

Mom Kitchen 06

So finally, a few weeks after our initial visit, I returned. I wasn't quite sure what to order; but decided on an item that I've not found a good version of in San Diego; Hainan Chicken.

Mom Kitchen 07

I ordered the Hainanese Chicken Rice Combo ($17). After ordering, I wondered if I was subconsciously setting Mom up to fail by ordering something that I've not found a good rendition of?

Mom Kitchen 08 Mom Kitchen 09   Well, in terms of the chicken and sauce this was a pleasant surprise! The chicken had been nicely sliced, only two pieces with bones were on the plate; one wing and one part of a leg. The chicken was so moist and tender. But the highlight was definitely the sauce. It's usually too watered down; but this one had a good amount of ginger, but was both aromatic and not over-powering. It had a good amount of seasoning, but the star was the ginger. The chili sauce was way too sweet for me.

Mom Kitchen 10  Mom Kitchen 12 As for the other parts. Well, just by looking at that boiled egg you can see the greyish tone to the yolks which means it had been boiled too long. So yes, there was a bitter-sulfuric tinge to the dry and crumbly yolk. If you look closely, you'll see a piece of white-grey matter in the yolk. I took that out and didn't eat it.

As for the rice…well, usually with this dish I'd get the rice moistened with the chicken soup stock or sauce. This one had a mere drizzling of the ginger based sauce on it, which was easy to remedy by using a couple of spoon of the dipping sauce. The rice was also over-cooked and super hard.

Mom Kitchen 11

On the positive side, this was a decent Hainan Chicken (without the rice). I'll probably order that as takeout. I think "FOY" Red Devil might enjoy this version, which is much better than what the short lived Rooster Rice & Noodles served.

Overall, one out of four dishes isn't that great. But there are some other items I'd like to try….perhaps in the future.

Dos Palmas Cafe

During our visits to Bica, we noticed this rather low-keyed shop across the street.

Dos Palmas 01

It seemed to be doing some rather steady business. So, after our coffee and sandwich, we took JJ on a walk all the way to Kensington and then back over to this shop.

Dos Palmas 02

We took a look at the menu and a gentleman was walking out with a package. We had noticed that folks in this area and Kensington seemed to be rather friendly, greeting us as we passed, some coming over to pet JJ. The gentleman said "you'll like this place; I drop by four or five times a week!"

So, we took a look at the menu.

Dos Palmas 03

Which we put in the category of a neighborhood coffee and sandwich shop. And there seemed to be a cute little patio in the back.

Dos Palmas 04

We also noted that the place opens at 7am, so we made a note to return when we took JJ "exploring" which was a few days later.

Dos Palmas Cafe is a cozy little shop, there was only one woman working when we arrived. The Missus ordered a Pour Over, I got an Americano and we also got two sandwiches and proceeded to take JJ to the quaint back patio.

Dos Palmas 05

Dos Palmas 06

I expected things to take a while since it was just one person working but our Avocado Toast ($10.75) with Bacon (+$2) and Truffle Grilled Cheese ($11.50) was ready fairly quickly.

Dos Palmas 07

There was a generous amount of tender, buttery avocado on the nicely toasted bread.

Dos Palmas 08

The bacon, which added that salty component could have been a bit more crisp, but was fine.

My Truffle Grilled Cheese was nicely toasted.

Dos Palmas 09 Dos Palmas 10   Though I really couldn't make out truffle. This was bit too much for me in terms of cheese….yes, I know, it's a grilled cheese, but this really needed more than rich-milkiness. The tomatoes weren't ripe enough to add the sweet acidity to help cut the richness and there wasn't enough onion to add pungency. If you just want gooey cheese-land, this might work for you.

The Missus didn't care for Her pour-over, but I thought my Americano was fine. We did like the patio, the woman working was so nice, and of course, JJ enjoyed himself.

Dos Palmas 10b

So, we decided to return. We'd take JJ for a nice walk in the neighborhood, do some shopping at Stehly Farms, the Missus would pick up a Cortado from Bica and I'd get my coffee and order a sandwich from Dos Palmas.

Dos Palmas 11

This time I went with the Turkey Pesto ($12.75).

Dos Palmas 13  Dos Palmas 14 This was a pretty good sandwich; nothing fancy mind you, the turkey was totally Sysco stuff; but the bread was nicely toasted and held out well. The herbaceous-savory-nutty pesto, the sweetness of the roasted red peppers, the bitterness of the greens, the creamy, slightly sweet avocado all worked well together. And this was enough for both the Missus and I for a light brunch. I think we'll go ahead and add the bacon for an upcharge next time.

I've mentioned "threads in the fabric of a neighborhood" in previous posts; you know, the corner bakery, coffee shop, and yes, the neighborhood sandwich purveyor. I think we just found this area's "sandwich – coffee shop".

Dos Palmas 17

Decent prices, decent food…..

And it seems that JJ was "praying" for more treats here…..

The Shed and Sidecar Bar

I'm sure you've noticed that we've been taking JJ everywhere…..looking for places the little ball of energy would be able to hang. I'd been wanting to check out the latest food stand that's opened next to Sidecar Bar, a favorite of the Missus, which we hadn't been back to in a while. It's called The Shed and took over the "shed" next to the bar back in the middle of 2023 if I recall.

The Shed 01

It's basically a burger stand, but I'd been told that the tri-tip sandwich was quite good. So, with JJ in tow, we thought it was time for him to hang at Sidecar.

The menu is brief; but covers burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and such.

The Shed 02

To order, you basically press that little button, right under "Anthony Bourdain's Middle Finger Salute" and the friendly guy will come out to take your order.

The Shed 03b

And for a modern touch, you're given one of the buzzer/beeper contraptions.

The Shed 04

And you go to the counter and press that "button" again. I think it would just be perfect if the button would be on a plastic "half-peace sign salute" thing. It would just make the experience complete, right?

I ordered the "Just the Tip" ($17.70) and an order of Garlic Parmesan Fries with Chimichurri ($8.30). The portion of fries was generous.

The Shed 05

This was a bit disappointing for us as the fries were gummy and dry and for some reason, the savory-saltiness of the Parmesan was quite muted. We'll pass on this in the future.

The tri-tip sandwich on the other hand…..

The Shed 06

Was pretty good! The trip-tip, though not smoked, was very tender, beefy, nicely seasoned. The brioche bun had a touch of sweetness that complemented things nicely. The fried onion rings…well, that's always a great touch. The chimichurri sauce was fine, though both the Missus and I noted that something a bit more pungent, like perhaps a horseradish based sauce might be really good with this. Still, we'd gladly have this again.

And of course, the Missus loves Sidecar…..

Sidecar Rev 01

And since we needed to…ahem, work on our "immune system", well, we thought some Penicillin would do the trick. Prices have gone up $2 since our last visit and this cocktail is now $12.

Sidecar Rev 02

I like the combination of Scotch, Mezcal, and Ginger in this. And also the fact that it isn't overly sweet.

Now that Sidecar has the Shed to provide some eats, I think the three of us will be dropping by a bit more often.

Saturday Stuffs – Mikami Sushi and Take the Bait Seafood Bar Closes and Mission Valley Farmers Market at Civita Park

Just a couple of quick things for a relaxing pre Super Bowl Saturday

Mikami Sushi and Take the Bait Seafood Bar Closes:

During my takeout visit from Curry Club I had to park a bit further down the parking lot than I usually do. Glancing over at Mikami Sushi, I noticed the brown paper taped to the windows and doors, so I decided to walk on over to take a look.

IMG_5316

And yes, Mikami, which Cathy posted on twice and the attached Take the Bait Seafood Bar has closed.

Strange, I didn't even hear a peep about the place closing.

Mission Valley Farmers Market at Civita Park:

We finished up our Saturday Little Italy shopping and other errands quite early this morning and wanted to take JJ somewhere, but we really couldn't decide on where. Then I thought it might be fun taking JJ to Civita Park which I had done a brief walk thru during my visit to La Clochette Cafe & Bakery. We'd go ahead and get some breakfast croissants and then take JJ to the park to explore. Sadly, La Clochette doesn't have any pastries in stock until after 9am; so we just got some coffee and relaxed. Driving into the development, we had noticed signs for a Saturday Farmers Market. The clock was just striking 9am when we finished our coffees so we decided to take a quick look.

Civita FM 01

Civita FM 02

It was quite mellow on this day. Not sure if it was because the Farmers Market had just opened, or perhaps the season, but the busiest businesses were all the food stands at the east end.

Civita FM 03

We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and all the vendors were very friendly.
